Mobile coverage in China
China's mobile network is operated by three state-owned carriers: China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom. 4G LTE coverage is extensive across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi'an, and all major cities, with strong connectivity along high-speed rail corridors and main transport routes. Rural areas, western Tibet, remote parts of Xinjiang and Qinghai, and mountainous border regions may have more limited coverage. Travellers should note that China operates an internet firewall which restricts access to many international services including Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Gmail. Using a VPN may be necessary to access certain services, and setting this up before arrival is strongly recommended. MobiSIM connects through supported Chinese networks to deliver reliable data speeds across the country's main cities and travel routes.
